Okiye said the move did not come to them as a surprise, adding that it was clear that the ad-hoc committee was up to no good.
The Edo State House of Assembly has rejected the move by the House of Representatives to upset exercises in its chamber, approaching the Inspector General of Police and leaders of the Department of State Services, the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress to regard a subsisting court request controlling them from meddling in the exercises of Edo House of Assembly.
Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Mr Frank Okiye, said this in an announcement he issued in Benin City on Wednesday, following reports of a request by the House of Representatives to seal up the Edo House of Assembly.
Okiye stated, “It has gone as far as anyone is concerned that the Ad hoc Committee of the House of Representatives exploring issues encompassing the introduction of the Edo State House of Assembly has prescribed that the Inspector General of Police and Department of State Services should seal up the Edo Assembly.”
The Speaker noticed that “Thinking about what we (have) come to know over the span of this procedure, the proposal of the specially appointed board of trustees does not come to us as an amazement.”
Rt. Hon Okiye kept up that “Plainly the specially appointed board was planning something naughty. Their report was continually going to be one-sided.
“In addition, we need to draw the consideration of the overall population and the police to a subsisting court request controlling the Police, headed by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, the Department of State Services and their specialists, from meddling in the issues of the Assembly, as the House has been approaching its exercises gently and without animosity.”
He prompted that “The National Assembly should observe that they are required to go about as specialists of harmony and not dealers of emergency. Edo State has consistently been quiet and any endeavor for them to complete this request will positively upset the harmony that is right now being appreciated in the state.”
The Speaker focused on that, “In a period like this in which the country is being inundated in one type of brutality or the other, tragically the House of Representatives supposedly is advancing viciousness and compounding the strain in the nation.”
